Common Hip Pain Causes & Treatments
Hip Pain Causes
Following can be the reasons for the Hip Pain :
Injury/ Fall
If pain is experienced right after a physical injury or fall, care needs to be taken. Sometimes, a visible deformation also may be noticeable. If the person is also suffering from osteoporosis, then a fall or injury could lead to breakage and must be investigated by a doctor as soon as possible.
Bursitis
Bursae are small fluid-filled sacs that occur in the body between bone and tissue and provide cushioning that reduces possible friction. Bursae in the hip can get inflamed from overuse and other factors that cause intense and sharp pain especially while lying down or sitting.
Tendonitis
When the tendon at the hip gets inflamed, tendonitis occurs. This can happen from excess physical activity as in the case of athletes. This pain can happen gradually starting with tenderness at the point of the hip. This can be another reason for hip pain.
Arthritis
There are several kinds of arthritis that can affect the hip but in general it refers to the degeneration of the joint due to damage to the cartilage and bone of the hip joint. This causes pain and stiffness.

Common Causes of Arthritis of the Hip
Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is generally found in older people where due to the general wear and tear of the cartilage of the hip joint, the ends of the joint itself begin to grind at each other to further deteriorate the hip. This condition can cause extreme discomfort and pain and is guaranteed to worsen with time without treatment.
Avascular Necrosis
In layman’s terms, this refers to bone death. When the blood supply to the bone tissue has been compromised, the bone goes through wear and tear and is unable to regenerate new bone tissue. Eventually, the bone will fully decay and requires treatment.
Hip Pain Treatment
For any hip pain treatment, the doctor would physically examine you first to try to locate the exact area of the pain and use x rays and scans to understand the extent of the problem. Some hip pain treatments may include:
Steroid injection
This non-surgical procedure is used to relieve pain from bursitis. The doctor will inject the steroids with anaesthetics into the inflamed bursae and this very quickly and effectively brings down inflammation for several months or even permanently. However, steroids cannot be taken over a prolonged period of time.
Tenotomy
This is a minimally invasive procedure where damaged tissue of tendons is removed.
Joint replacement surgery
This is in the case of arthritis where the joint has been completely damaged and mobility is very poor. Here an artificial joint is fully fitted for a total joint replacement or a part of it. This is a major surgery and can be a very daunting surgery with a long recovery period.
Avascular necrosis treatment
In advanced cases of avascular necrosis, total hip replacement is what is usually recommended to treat the pain. As discussed, this can be a very daunting surgery and also is done at a stage where mobility has reached dire stages. However, this is not necessary. Avascular necrosis can be treated with a minimally invasive procedure using bone cell regeneration therapy. This only requires healthy bone marrow to be extracted to create a culture that is implanted back into the affected area. This allows the bone tissue in the hip to regenerate and fully restore mobility and alleviate all hip pain.
Ossgrow Avascular necrosis(AVN) treatment by bone cell therapy also has a quicker recovery time.
